Where should I stay?

NEW! Okay, so the group rate thing was a bust. We looked at a bunch of different places and surprisingly the group rate didn't make it that much cheaper (sometimes the prices were even more expensive than hotels.com!). We are still, however, recommending two places.

  • Hotel Kabuki is the closest (non-motel) to our venue, and pretty reasonably priced. Right now it's about $200/night. We realize that's not a steal, but unfortunately this town is very pricey. Kabuki is located in Japantown which is nice, and the northern-adjacent neighborhood of Pacific Heights is beautiful with lots of shops and restaurants (and minimal crazy people).
  • Park Central Hotel is a bit nicer and not too close to the craziness of Union Square, but still walkable if you want to check it out. As of writing this it's about $240/night. Some nice museums are located within a few blocks of this hotel and there is a big green space at Yerba Buena Gardens pretty much next door. It's also only a 20-minute walk to the Embarcadero waterfront - take a walk along the water, look at the Bay Bridge, or go to the Ferry Building for a local snack, fancy shop, or the Saturday morning farmer's market.

Geoff, Emma, are you f*!king kidding me, this is highway robbery! Okay, some other advice if you want to look elsewhere:

  • Staying outside of San Francisco proper is possible and is sometimes cheaper, but it will be a pain in the butt getting to and from the wedding. Hotels don't actually get that much cheaper even staying near the airport, approximately $150/night.
  • Same for the Fisherman's Wharf area - hotels there are sometimes less expensive, but not much less and transportation's not much easier than from the airport.
  • Don't stay in the Tenderloin, Civic Center, the Mission (our neighborhood, heh) or Bayview/Hunter's Point (we're not even sure if there are hotels there). The hotels will be a "bargain" but it's not worth it. This neighborhood map of SF will help out.

Aside from this, we're happy to answer any questions about locations or other hotels you're thinking about.  And if you'd rather live like a local, we recommend AirBnB.

When should I get there?

All of the wedding events will happen on Saturday, October 15 between 3:30pm and 11:00pm.  We hope you'll arrive sometime before that, and leave sometime after.

Should I rent a car?

Ideally, no. Why not? It's very tough and expensive to park in San Francisco, and driving in the city isn't that exciting either. We recommend Uber or Lyft as an easy alternative.

What should I wear?

Whatever you want! Really - there is no dress requirement. We want you to be comfortable. Geoff will be in a suit (not tux) and Emma will be in a dress (not gown), so we are already dressing down a little from the traditional. It's also an outdoor wedding. In San Francisco. So, maybe wear comfortable shoes and bring a jacket or sweater just in case.

What should I buy you?

The first rule of buying us a gift is, don't buy us a gift. The second rule of buying us a gift is, don't buy us a gift. Really. We mean it. Some of you will be paying a small fortune to come and visit us (did you read the "Where should I stay section?"). Your company is what we really want. If you absolutely can't bear not to buy us something, send us an email about it and we'll talk.

Will there be alcohol?

Yes.

Right. But will there be FREE alcohol?

Also yes.

(But no hard liquor, we apologize.)

It's the day of the wedding and I'm totally lost/running late/freaking out. What should I do?

Call or text Emma or Geoff! Seriously, you won't be bothering us.
